More Ways to Volunteer: Fire Corps

What Is Fire Corps?

Fire CorpsFire Corps is a locally driven Citizen Corps program that enables community members to offer their time and talents to their local fire/EMS department in a non-emergency capacity.

Fire Corps participants assist from their homes, their places of business / employment, the fire station, etc. A broad range of opportunities exist for you, your family and/or your business to help by donating time and talents in ways you choose at times most convenient.

Citizen Corps

Citizen Corps is an initiative under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to help coordinate volunteer activities that will make our communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to any emergency situation. It provides opportunities for people to support first responders and participate in a range of measures to make their families, homes, and communities safer from the threats of crime, terrorism, and disasters of all kinds.

Citizen Corps is comprised of five programs – USAOnWatch/Neighborhood Watch, Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), and Fire Corps. The Citizen Corps program includes a national network of over 1,200 state, local, and tribal Citizen Corps Councils bringing together local government, business, and community leaders who work to prepare their communities for disaster and to make them more resilient.

Citizen Corps asks you to embrace the personal responsibility to be prepared; to get training in first aid and emergency skills; and to volunteer to support local emergency responders, disaster relief, and community safety.
