Drehmer serves Harford County at Abingdon Fire Company. “I take a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction in volunteering,” he says. “I do it for me. I love it. The camaraderie, the friendships. Some of my closest friends are ones I made through the department.”

Goodwin serves Harford County at Abingdon Fire Company. “These people called for a reason. They need you, and it’s important to be compassionate,” he says.

Hays serves Harford County at Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company. What keeps him going is not the occasional excitement and adrenaline, he says, but the every-day interactions with patients.

Hofmann serves Harford County at Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company. “It’s easy to get distracted,” he says. “But stay focused on why you came and focus on that. The number one job is to show up and make sure you do the best you can. Everything else is ancillary.”

Senior serves Harford County at Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company and recently developed, and now Chairs the new Judy Hinch Benevolence Fund for the HCVFA. “The benefits outweigh the sacrifice,” she says. “I can’t imagine my life without the friends I made. That’s worth its weight in gold.”

Testerman serves Harford County at Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company in Pylesville. “I love it. I love doing it,” she says. Her favorite part is holding events, including their open house. “Making people feel better is all that matters,” she says. “Making strong connections with members of the community.”
